About Iron Pulse
I grew up in Goolwa, about an hour south of Adelaide on the Murray mouth. Left at 22 for London, ended up staying nearly nine years across London, Berlin, and a two-year stint in Tokyo. In Tokyo I spent most of my weekends in Kappabashi, the kitchenware district in Taito, watching restaurant suppliers move serious volume of carbon steel, heavy-gauge stainless, and precision tools that Australian home cooks simply couldn't get their hands on without paying a freight premium that made no sense. That gap stuck with me. Not as a business idea at first, just as a frustration I kept coming back to every time I visited home and cooked in someone's kitchen.
Before Iron Pulse I was working in commercial fitout project management, first in Shoreditch, then for a hospitality group in Prenzlauer Berg. Good work, decent money, but the part I kept drifting toward was always the kitchen spec side of a project. Sourcing the right equipment for a 40-seat restaurant in Kreuzberg taught me more about what separates functional cookware from marketing-led cookware than any product review ever could. Weight distribution, gauge thickness, handle angle, how a wok base interacts with a gas ring versus induction. I was taking notes in notebooks I still have in a box in the shed here in Goolwa.
